Appearance

Cut Content

Carter would appear as a mortal in The Uninvited as the owner of the Gothic manor under the name Old Man Carter. Following the level he would have eventually died off screen and have his story continued in two different versions of a mission:

  • In The Butler Didn't Do It Carter would have been murdered by one of the mortals in the level and in order to free him, the Ghost Master would be tasked with helping a mortal detective Miss Ascot find the culprit who would turn out to be Bill Scarlet who had poisoned his father-in-law.
  • In Where There's a Will... Carter would have died of natural causes and have written a testament according to which he stated that his whole estate would have been split equally among everyone who managed to stay the night in his mansion. However due to his hatred of his whole family and servants, Carter would have tasked the Ghost Master with scaring everyone away to make sure nobody gets his property.

As the head of the Carter Family he would have also had a wife (Eileen Peacock) and three children (Edward Carter, James Carter and Angela Scarlet)

Trivia

  • Carter design is based on Ebenezer Scrooge, the main character of Charles Dickens's "A Christmas Carol".
    • His name however is taken from Randolph Carter, a character from an H.P Lovecraft story called "The Unnameable".
      • Coincidentally, Carter's name also lines up with Michael Carter, an actor who played the Spirit of Christmas Future in 1984 adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" however the correlation doesn't seems to be intentional.
  • Carter, Buck and The Painter were supposed to appear as mortals in The Uninvited. They would later reappear as ghosts in Where There's a Will... /The Butler Didn't Do It.
    • Buck is Carter's dog who, according to his epitaph, died soon after Carter.
      • To make the connection between the two stronger, Carter can learn Phobia which gives mortals a fear of Creepy Crawlies, Buck's specialty.
    • The Painter was commissioned to draw a portrait of Carter.
  • Carter used to be called Old Man Carter in earlier versions of the game.
