Blair Wisp

Wisps experience a pleasurable sensation when gazed upon by mortals, and as such are difficult to sneak up on. They can, however, be incapacitated by a hard stare.

-Epitaph

Three hundred years ago, this wisp was cursed to the worst fate a wisp can befall - to never be seen by mortal eyes.

-Epitaph

Blair Wisp is a Wisp encountered in The Blair Wisp Project. He is trapped in a circle of trees obscured by fog in the middle of the lake, due to a curse made by a powerful witch.

Appearance

Blair Wisp is a creature resembling a floating human skull and vertebrae. Blair Wisp's skull contains a pair of blue eyes with visible veins. His vertebrae are not connected to one another, marking the red inter-vertebral discs.

How To Free

Blair Wisp can be freed by making a mortal see him. However, the island Blair Wisp is located on is shrouded in thick fog preventing any mortal from seeing him. To get rid of this fog, you need to create a wind of power 3 or above which can be done by either using Tempest by itself or combining Gather Winds with Gusts. After the fog dissipates, making Blair Wisp use either Strange Vision in presence of a mortal or Hypnotic Image will free the ghost.

Trivia

  • Blair Wisp's name is a reference to Blair Witch from 1999 found footage Horror movie, Blair Witch Project.
  • The official strategy guide for Ghost Master states that Blair Wisp was trapped by the same witch who was instrumental in imprisoning Darkling.
  • Before added in Complete Edition, Blair Wisp didn't have Spooky Surprise, leaving his Manifest animation completely unused as Strange Vision uses the normal power cast animation instead.
  • Blair Wisp is the only ghost in base game who knows Hypnotic Image.
  • According to the official guide, Blair Wisp is considered a local legend and the reason why the film students are in the woods in the first place.
  • In the official poster from the Collector's Edition of the game Blair Wisp accidentally uses the normal texture for human teeth instead of his own special texture for them.
  • Before the changes to the Recommended Teams in Complete Edition, Blair Wisp was the least recommended ghost in the game with 0 levels he's recommended in due to an error in the code. He was supposed to show up on Spooky Hollow's team but his name was mistyped in the code.
  • The model for Blair Wisp has an unused texture called "Marrow" which looks exactly the same as a texture he does use called "Marrow3".
    • Despite what the names might suggest there is no texture called "Marrow2".
  • According to his dialogue, Blair Wisp needs to be seen by mortal eyes to become free. However Hypnotic Image will also work despite not making the ghost itself visible.
  • Blair Wisp used to have a slightly different name in early versions of the game where he was called "The Blair Wisp".
  • Blair Wisp used to have a slightly different restless spirit location, being trapped in a circle of trees rather then on a small island. It is unknown if the puzzle would have been changed due to that.
