Dr. Krauss is a professor of Gravenville University who is interested in the supernatural world. He's the main antagonist of the base game. He's present in Summoners Not Included, The Unusual Suspects and What Lies Over the Cuckoo's Nest?. He also appears in the final cutscene of The Blair Wisp Project. He would have also been present in Ghost in the Military Machine.
While the exact nature of his relation to Dr. Brunner is unknown, they do seem to have at least worked together in order to capture Darkling.

- Krauss was originally called Herbert Lovecraft and used to have a different plot which eventually shifted into Dr. Krauss from the final version of the game.
- Moonscream was Dr. Krauss' wife.
- Dr. Krauss is named after Dr. Caligari from a 1931 silent horror movie, The Cabinet of Dr Caligari! who was played by Werner Krauss.
- Dr. Krauss and Bruce Elm are the only people who we can see "survive" having their soul sucked by the Darkling as everyone else just disappears.
