Originally, the whole trio of film students would have appeared first in The Uninvited where the objective of the level would have been to scare them away from the mansion.

- Josh Myrick is based on Joshua Leonard, a character played by Joshua Granville Leonard as well as the director Daniel Myrick from a 1999 Supernatural horror movie The Blair Wisp Project.
- This could have been done due to the nature of the movie as it was advertised as real found footage with actors using their real names.
